FDA-approved treatments
Male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) is caused by DHT (dihydrotestosterone) miniaturising hair follicles. Only two treatments are FDA-approved for this type of hair loss: finasteride (oral) and minoxidil (topical). Used together, they’re significantly more effective than either alone.
Blocks DHT production. Stops hair loss in 80% of men and regrows hair in 65%. From $22/month.
Increases blood flow to follicles. Works at any stage of hair loss. Visible results in 3–6 months.
Antifungal with DHT-blocking properties. Often used alongside finasteride as a 3rd pillar.

For male pattern hair loss, finasteride 1mg daily is my first recommendation — it addresses the root hormonal cause. Add 5% minoxidil for best results. Results take 3–6 months to appear, so don't stop early. The most common reason finasteride "doesn't work" is discontinuation before 12 months.
