PDE5 inhibitor · generic Cialis® · Reviewed by Dr. Arjun Mehta, PharmD

Tadalafil is a long-acting PDE5 inhibitor — the same drug class as sildenafil, but with a much longer window of action (up to 36 hours after a single dose). This earned it the nickname “the weekend pill” and makes it the preferred choice for men who value spontaneity.
It is also licensed in a low daily dose (2.5–5mg) for men who want continuous coverage, and for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Onset is roughly 30 minutes; food slows it slightly less than sildenafil.
Tadalafil is the standard treatment for erectile dysfunction. Read the full condition guide for diagnosis, treatment options and FAQs.
Tadalafil is one of several treatments for erectile dysfunction. Each has its own profile — see the comparison pages and the related ingredient hubs for side-by-side detail.

Tadalafil is a prescription-only medicine. Even though it is widely used and well-tolerated, the right dose for you depends on your overall health and other medicines. Always start at the lowest effective dose under medical supervision.
